Property Tax Assessment

ORHMA has been working on convincing the Ontario Government to make favourable changes to the value provincial assessment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitality properties continued to pay 2017 property-assessed taxes based on the 2016 year values. Calls to lower these taxes due to depressed revenues have fallen on deaf ears.

We continue to pursue such while uniting with other sector business associations advocating on: a provincial reassessment in 2024; shorten the 4 assessment-year cycle; and move the effective valuation date closer to the taxation year. Currently, it is two years apart which is not reflective of current value.
