Nearly 50% of the price of alcohol in Canada are taxes, amongst the very highest in the world. Canada's hospitality industry is still in recovery and yet, Canada is still moving forward with its automatic increase to federal alcohol taxes. This takes place on April 1st each year. This inflation-indexing of alcohol taxes occurs without a vote or debate in Parliament and puts upward pressure on prices and worse of all, it actually fuels inflation.

With sky-high inflation pushing prices higher for food, gas and housing at the fastest pace in decades, the last thing Canadians need is another alcohol tax increase. We believe our governments should do their best to keep life affordable, not make it more expensive.

The Trudeau government plans to increase the federal tax on alcohol by 6.3% on April 1st. Ask your MP to stop automatic inflation-indexed increases to excise duties to help consumers, hospitality sector workers and hard working Canadians.
